Nearly 11 years old, Lê Duy Quang from Nghi Xuân, Hà Tĩnh, has never had the chance to attend school like his peers due to a lifetime of illness.
Duy Quang was born with congenital heart disease as well as a deformity causing the absence of radial bones in both arms. This condition has resulted in deformed forearms and the absence of thumbs on both hands, making it extremely challenging for him to grip or hold objects.
A hopeful treatment plan for Duy Quang includes creating thumbs from his index fingers or correcting the alignment of his wrists through two surgeries—one for each side. The first surgery is scheduled to begin in April 2025 with Dr. Stéphane Guero, renowned as the "Hand Wizard." This marks a beacon of hope for Duy Quang, offering him the possibility of going to school and holding a pen like his friends.
"The support from the Fund and kind-hearted benefactors will give my son the chance to live a healthy life and bring immense hope to our family."
These heartfelt words were penned by his father, Lê Thanh Quý, in a letter to The Children of Vietnam Charitable Fund. As the family’s main breadwinner, Mr. Quý suffers from muscle atrophy in his right leg due to childhood polio. Despite this, he perseveres in his job as a mechanic, earning a modest income of just 2,500,000 VND (about $100) per month to support their family of four.
With their financial struggles, it’s impossible for the family to afford Duy Quang’s treatment plan. They are desperately hoping for the support of generous benefactors to give their son the chance to live a healthy life and hold a pen to write his dreams.
Note:
The estimated total budget is based on the initial treatment plan provided by the doctor.
The budget may be adjusted following subsequent follow-up appointments.
At the end of the treatment process, the final expenses will be updated accurately and substantiated with medical records from the hospital providing care for the children.
