At the end of June 2022, while Bon Dong Ou Ya Thao's mother was boiling water for a bath, the child accidentally fell into the pot of boiling water. He suffered severe burns on the chest, right elbow, and right knee. After a period of treatment, the burn wounds have now turned into large scars. The scars on the elbow and knee have impacted the development of Thao's arms and legs. As the scars cannot keep up with the growth of the body, they have caused the elbow to contract, making it impossible to fully extend the arm, and the knee is also starting to show signs of contraction. Being young and quite active, Thảo tends to engage in physical activities that cause the wounds to crack and ulcerate. Regarding Bon Dong Ou Ya Thao’s family, they have a small plot of land (about 1,000 square meters) for growing coffee. The family can cover basic expenses like food and education for the children. However, they do not have any savings for emergencies. During Thao’s burn treatment, the family had to borrow additional money from relatives to pay for the hospital fees.
