“Lighting Up Our World With Love” A Campaign for Children with Retinoblastoma

“Lighting Up Our World With Love” A Campaign for Children with Retinoblastoma

Retinoblastoma: When Light Is Taken Away Too Soon From the very first moments of life, a child’s eyes open onto a world filled with love — a mother’s gentle smile, a father’s embrace, and the vibrant colors of childhood.

But for children diagnosed with retinoblastoma, a rare form of eye cancer, that precious light can be stolen away before they have even had the chance to truly see the world.

Understanding Retinoblastoma
Retinoblastoma is a malignant tumor that develops in the retina of young children. Without timely diagnosis and treatment, the disease can lead not only to permanent vision loss, but also become life-threatening due to the risk of spreading beyond the eye.

One of the most important warning signs is known as the “cat’s eye reflex” — an abnormal white reflection in the pupil (leukocoria), often noticed in photographs taken with flash or when light shines directly into the eye.

If this symptom appears, parents should seek immediate evaluation from an eye specialist, as early detection is critical.

“Lighting Up Our World With Love” Campaign
Since mid-2024, The Children of Vietnam Charitable Fund has launched the campaign “Lighting Up Our World With Love”, in close collaboration with leading ophthalmologists and intra-arterial intervention specialists.

Through this program, children with retinoblastoma are given access to intra-arterial chemotherapy, an advanced treatment method that delivers medication directly to the tumor site.

This breakthrough approach has shown remarkable results in shrinking — and in many cases eliminating — malignant tumors, helping children avoid complete vision loss and severe complications.

More than a medical intervention, it is a mission to protect the priceless gift of sight — so that every child may continue to see love, hope, and a brighter future.

Encouraging Early Outcomes
Since the campaign began in 2024, The Children of Vietnam Charitable Fund has supported 12 children diagnosed with retinoblastoma. Among them:
10 patients have responded positively to treatment
6 cases showed tumor calcification, meaning the malignancy has been controlled and the children are no longer at immediate risk of eye removal
4 children are continuing intensive treatment

These promising outcomes inspire the Fund to further expand the program and reach even more children in need.

Continuing the Miracle in 2026
Looking ahead to 2026, The Children of Vietnam Charitable Fund hopes to broaden the journey of “Lighting Up Our World With Love”, bringing advanced treatments such as intra-arterial chemotherapy to more underprivileged children across Vietnam.

With timely care and compassionate support, more children will have the chance to preserve their sight, reclaim their childhood, and continue chasing dreams that are still unfolding.

We believe that when love is shared, miracles continue to happen. Together, we can ensure that the light never fades from a child’s eyes — and that every child may grow up with wholeness, dignity, and hope.
